December Update Letter

Greetings 2020 Ireland Delegation!


The Dublin Dollars committee has been hard at work these last few months organizing and raising funds to help offset the cost of the upcoming student trip to Ireland. Since we are now halfway through our fundraising season, we thought it would be a good time to remind participants about how our program works and share upcoming volunteer and fundraising opportunities with students and families.


What is Dublin Dollars?

Dublin Dollars is a program of the Shorecrest Boosters raising funds for the Shorecrest High School Students participating in the 2020 Ireland Delegation organized by Washington Cultural Exchange (WCE). Fundraising events will help students pay a portion of their trip costs by way of a rebate, enable maximum participation, and develop a sense of community among the group. How do I participate in Dublin Dollars?

Participation in Dublin Dollars is voluntary.  Students will have many opportunities to help earn funds toward the cost of their trip.  All students who contribute 12 hours or more toward fundraising activities will receive a rebate from the cost of the trip; additional volunteer hours contributed by the student will provide an additional rebate, as will up to 6 volunteer hours completed by the student’s parents or other friends or family members on their behalf.  The amount of the rebate will be determined after all fundraising activities have been completed and accounted for and will vary from student to student based upon their individual and family level of effort. Families will receive their rebate as reimbursement after the trip fee has been paid in full. How and when will the Dublin Dollars funds be distributed?

Proceeds will fall into one or more of three funds:  (A) Based on ‘buy-in’ fundraisers; (B) based on volunteer hours worked; and (C) general fund for direct donations, evenly distributed to all students.  The board will determine the payout funds for each fundraising event.  Families will be paid out via reimbursement checks (the amounts to be determined by the Dublin Dollars payout formula) after their trip is paid in full.  The funds raised do NOT come directly off the cost of the trip. What upcoming volunteer and fundraising opportunities can I participate in?

1. Dining Dollars @ Jersey’s Great Food and Spirits  – December 1-31, 2019

During the month of December, Jersey’s Great Food and Spirits will generously donate 20% of the tab for any costumers who mention the “2020 Dublin Trip.” Jersey’s is a family friendly restaurant right next to Shoreline’s City Hall on 175th Street and a great place to go to dinner during the busy holiday season.


2. See’s Candies Sales

Three ways to participate in the See’s Candy Fundraiser! 

a) Sell See’s chocolate at selected events and earn volunteer hours. Sign up to volunteer (http://bit.ly/DD2020-Sees-Volunteer). b) Collect orders for See’s Candy – especially for students in Flag, Cheer, Highland Dance and Pipers (optional for Marching Band). Forms and payment due by December 6 and pick up chocolate the following week. Email us if you need more order forms.c) Sell See’s Chocolate to your friends, family and neighbors by buying boxes of 24 milk or dark chocolate bars for $60. Sell each bar for $2.50 or more to earn your money back. Place an order (http://bit.ly/DD2020-Sees-Boxes) by Wednesday to get your chocolate on Friday or Monday.

3. Candy Sales @ Senior Spree Christmas Tree Sales – December 6-8, 2019

Join us for a fun and festive fundraiser!  December 6, 7 & 8, the Senior Spree is selling Christmas Trees at Loyal Automotive on 175th & 15th NE.  Dublin Dollars is running the warm beverage table and selling candy.  It should be quite easy to sell some delicious Christmas treats to folks purchasing trees.  We need volunteers to sign up for an hour or two.  This is a really easy way to get hours for the fundraising payout.  We need at least one adult and two students to run the table.  Dress warm and join the festivities.  Sign up here: http://bit.ly/DD2020-Sees-Volunteer


4. Dining Dollars @ Bhan Mi Bites – Saturday, December 14th

On Saturday, December 14, eat at Bhan Mi Bites (23601 56th Ave W #600, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043) and mention Dublin Dollars/Ireland Trip and they will donate 20% of sales. https://www.banhmibites.com/


5. Big Band Dance Bake Sale – Saturday, January 18th

There are four easy ways to earn a Volunteer hour (volunteer through "signupgenius" as of 12/16/2019) Remember sign up for ONLY 1 hour at this time!

**Caruso Comments - Jazz students cannot volunteer when they should be warming-up or performing with one of the SC jazz bands. The Stage Band is the first group after the dance lesson (at ~7:30pm), followed by the KMS jazz band, and then the SC Jazz Ensemble. **

1.) Bake or create 2 dozen individually wrapped and labeled items which can be sold for $1.00 - Examples include: Large frosted cookies, bar cookies, cupcakes, large brownies, plate/boat of veggies & dip, plate of hummus & chips, fruit cups (**no grapes please**).

3.) Sign up for an hour shift at the Concession Table: Students and parents can sign up for a 1-hour shift. (6:00pm -10:00pm) 3 students/1 parent per shift. **Remember Caruso Comments above**

Our LAST fundraiser before the students leave for Ireland!!

Join us for an evening of Irish fun – live Celtic music, food & drinks, and special performances – all to raise funds for the Shorecrest High School Students participating in the 2020 Ireland Delegation.
